Not sure what to say?

Aunt Deedle Bernard was every one's Aunt in Garden Home's Hunt Club. Deedle was and is loved by all. I still miss her each day. Andy Dig & Family

Dear Friends,
We are having a memorial service for Julie on August 20, 2016, 3 PM at the First Unitarian Church - 1034 SW 13th Ave, Portland, OR 97205. Reception to follow. We invite you join us in celebrating this wonderful gal! Love, The Bernard Kids

The artists and Portland arts community had a friend and champion in Julie Bernard. Attention from Julie was always an honor and an interview with her on ArtFocus seemed like a right of passage into the Portland art scene. No one will fill her role as she did - passionately filled with the love of art and the people who make it. She is a Portland icon and the community has had a great loss.

With sincere admiration

Dear Anita--

I was behind in reading my Oregonian newspapers when I caught up with the paper with your mother's notice, Friday, the 30th of October. Oddly, perhaps, when I glanced and saw the notice, the picture of your mother and her name, I thought of you. I don't know why I thought of you but I did and then I read and found out this was your mother.

What a lovely, distinctive woman. I thought to myself, this is where Anita got her personality.

My best recollection of Julie was as Laura's mom in Garden Home, always loving and happy to have a gang of kids around. Her obituary is a treasure, placing more personal pieces to her life and loves. I especially enjoyed knowing that she and Bill chose to retire to Sisters, OR, as did my own parents. Very coincidental. Wonderful memories of this truly wonderful mom.....

Hello Bernard "kids",
I was sad to hear of your mom's passing. She and your dad were wonderful friends to my parents for so many years. She took time to write me a note different times in my young adult years...to cheer me on when I got my first "real" job lifeguarding and teaching swimming at the JCC. Turns out she had worked there in that capacity too! And the one term at college when I got all A's she wrote to congratulate me.
Thinking of you all as you say...

Julie Bernard was a treasure. Our two sons had her as a teacher at Christ Church Playschool. They are now 45 and 42 and she is remember fondly even now. My wife Linda, and I were very fortunate to have Julie as their teacher. We think back on those days as a very special time in the life of our sons. Mike Darcy

I remember Julie from her years at KBOO. She was a tireless supporter of the arts. My condolences to her family.
