Julie and I went to grade school together at IJP. She was a kind and loving person.

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."

Julie was not only a loving part of the Hanes family, but a wonderful mother figure to me since I was 13 years old, a cherished grandmother to my children, and also my friend. She was the best person to talk to, always willing to help anyone in need, and had an amazing sense of style in home decoration. She also had the incredible ability to really make people feel seen, and valued, which I feel was one of her best qualities as a person. She fiercely loved animals in general, but especially...
