MACKSOOD, Julie Kathryn - Of Flint, age 45, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at her residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM Monday, March 20, 2006 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road in Burton, Father William Lugger officiating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center, 301 E. Liberty, Suite 400, Ann Arbor, MI 48104 or Durant Tuuri Mott School (Julie Macksood Fund for Children). Julie was born on October 7, 1960, the first-born child of Leo and Diane (St. Germain) Macksood. She was a graduate of Luke M. Powers High School in 1978, where she enjoyed 4 years as a cheerleader and a lead role in the senior class play "Fiddler on the Roof." She was a graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Radiology, where she worked as an X-ray tech. She then went on to Providence Hospital School of Sonography and graduated as an ultrasound tech. In 1985, her career was interrupted when she suffered a severe closed head injury due to an auto accident. After 3 months in a coma, 5 years of intensive rehab and therapy, a deep faith in God and quiet determination, she managed to get out of a wheelchair, progress to a walker, then a cane and overcome many obstacles. Unable to physically return to her previous work, she went back to college painstakingly taking one class at a time until in 1994, when she proudly graduated from Mott Community College and U-M Flint with a degree in Social Work. Having learned sign language along the way, she secured a position at Durant Tuuri Mott School working with hearing impaired and handicapped children. Here is where she felt she was meant to be, she loved to work with the children, and the children loved her. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and many friends. She loved music and dancing, life and God. She was an inspiration to us all. Julie is survived and leaves to cherish the memory of the beautiful person she was: her parents; her brother, Joseph and wife Jacqueline Macksood of Fenton; her sister, Janet Macksood of Flint; her two beloved nieces and goddaughters, Elizabeth and Natalie. Also, many loving aunts and uncles, Mary (Macksood) and Joe Conroy, Louise Macksood, Janice (Macksood) and Richard Whittleton, Betty (Macksood) and Richard Ramsdell, Tom and Linda Macksood and Michael St. Germain. She also leaves 24 first cousins; many dear other relatives and many special friends, especially Debbie Lengyl and Charlie Odykirk. She was preceded in death by her infant sisters and brothers, Jane Mary; twins, John and Regina and Abraham; her grandparents, Louis and Nimrie Macksood, Reginald and Doris St. Germain, Aunt Catherine and Uncle Donald Roda.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Macksood & Family. I just recently was informed of Julie's passing. I would like to say how sorry I'am. What a inspiration to everyone, you must be very proud of her. I have fond memories of Julie and the family, she will be missed. I will tell this story of determination and courage to our children when they think life is tough or they have hit a road block that seems impassable. May God continue to Bless each and everyone of you. John.

I am so sorry of your loss. I graduated with Julie from Powers, and I can still see her - always with that beautiful smile on her face. She was such a fighter. I remember talking with her at our 20 year class reunion, and remembering what a remarkable person she was. My thoughts and prayers will be with your family always.

Dear Mr.and Mrs.Macksood,

My heart and deepest of sympathy goes out to you and your family. I graduated with Julie and would often hear of her struggles and triumphs through classmates. The image that is so clear in my mind , to this day, is of Julie walking through the halls of Powers with a bounce in her step and an enormous smile on her face. She was indeed a lovely woman.
Sending you peace and prayers,
Linda

Leo, Diane, and Macksood Family,

Deepest Sympathy and Prayers are with you and your family.

My heart aches for what your family must be going through at this point in your life. I not only worked with Julie at St Joes but also socialized with her outside of the hospital. I adored her - as many others did. After the accident, I was at the hospital as soon as I could be - and visited weekly to sit with her when she was in the coma. Once she was alert again I remember teasing her about all of the guys that were in the waiting room wanting to see her - worried about her - and thinking...

Leo and Diane: Mary and I were shocked and saddened to learn of your daughters passing. All parents can understand the grief of losing a child, but such a loss is magnified when one realizes the great obstacles that she overcame, and the contributions that she made.
You are all in our prayers.
