Not sure what to say?

Julie- you have passed from this life to the next one. You are gone but not forgotten. I thank you for our friendship. Denyse McGriff

For three decades, Julie and Don were wonderful next-door neighbors on SW Myrtle Street. We harmoniously shared a vigorous laurel hedge--this must be the definition of neighborliness. These two were always active, thoughtful, and fair, and they were Portland citizens of the highest order. With so many others, I cherish their memory.

Bill, John, & Sarah - I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. She was always so generous to all of us growing up in the neighborhood. Remember all the track meets, football games and general hanging out your home hosted? I can't imagine the havoc we must of caused her. But I never remember being turned away.

Best Wishes - Mark Hoy

Julie: We miss you. And offer our love to your family.

Don and Shirley Clark

Julie and I met during our service on the State Citizen Involvement Advisory Committee. We became fast friends- visiting each other in Bend, Tumlo at the Ant Farm and in Portland. We talked about everything. She was a great friend. I will miss our phone calls and lunchs. Thinking of you all.

Dear Sarah and Bill and John: Nick (Hastings) and I send you sympathy and sorrow over your mother. Julie was endlessly impressive--all the civic involvement that's been mentioned, plus those super travel pieces about France. We were in Dorothy Turschi's French class at the MAC and had a riotous time there, with lots of linguistic swimming uphill vs the rest...

How lucky we are to have known her

Julie Sterling was a good friend, too, of the Oregon Historical Society. She showed up to support Thomas and Elizabeth Vaughan in so many of their efforts. I wonder if she ever sensed that I sought her out and liked to be next to her at events because of her no-nonsense, humane presence. I also remember fondly her kind husband, Don, who was such a good friend and supporter of the OHS Library. We had to say goodbye to him too soon and now Julie is gone. Two great, caring Portlanders. ...

I'm grateful to have known Julie. She was so generous, gracious and smart. When I think of her, I think of being at the theatre with her--whether one of the more upscale venues in the central city, or something edgier and further out.
