Julio Gonzalez Benitez

Groton - Julio Gonzalez Benitez, 79, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Dec. 8, 2025, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. Born Aug. 14, 1946, in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, he was the beloved son of Julio Gonzalez and Francisca Gonzalez (Benitez Alvarado).

Julio was proud of his Puerto Rican heritage and found joy in sharing meals with family and spending time with his elderly mother. He was known for his independence, generosity and social spirit. A Vietnam veteran and dedicated serviceman, he served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge on Sept. 21, 1967.

Julio was predeceased by his wife, Carol of Camuy, Puerto Rico; his father, Julio Gonzalez; his brother, Hector Gonzalez Benitez; and his sister, Sonia Gonzalez Benitez. He is survived by his devoted mother, Francisca Gonzalez (Benitez Alvarado), age 100; his nephews, Jorge Alcoba (Danielle) and Marc Gonzalez; and his nieces: Michelle Cruz (Roberto), Myree Allen (Larry), Melody DaSilva (Jack), and Soan Calderon (Eddie Hernandez). He is also survived by a host of great-nephews and great-nieces.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Solstice Senior Living Community for the kindness and support they provided during his three years of residence.
