JULIO MEI, 80 of Squantum Road, Jaffrey died Saturday January 17, 2004 at his residence following a period of failing health.

He was born November 18, 1923 in Jaffrey son of the late Fortunato and Nettie (Travaglini) Mei.

He was a 1941 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey and had attended Dartmouth as well as Harvard University. He has been a life long resident of this community.

Mr. Mei served in the European Theater as a Lieutenant J.G. with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the John Humiston American Legion Post #11 and also a member of Jaffrey Memorial Post #5613 VFW.

Mr. Mei succeeded his father in the ownership and management of the F. Mei & Company plumbing business, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Jaffrey Lions Club. Julio was an avid golfer, belonging to the Keene Country Club for many years.

Having played baseball and basketball while at Conant, he naturally was an avid fan who followed his grandson’s teams through out the years and even to the State Tournaments in Plymouth, even in his later years.

He cherished time spent with family and friends.

He and his wife wintered in Ft. Myers Florida from 1978 until ill heath prevented their return in 1998.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years Bernadette (Butler) Mei of Jaffrey; two daughters Julianna M. Getty and Maria M. Thoin both of Jaffrey; a son Anthony A. Mei of New York, NY; five grandchildren; a sister Helen M. Griffin of Jaffrey; several nieces and nephews, aunts uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00Am at St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev Wilfred H. Deschamps , pastor will officiate. Spring burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey

My family was saddened to hear of your father's passing. We send all our love and sympathy to you and the rest of your family. This is going to be a very rough January for all of us. My daughter 17 was killed in a car accident on January 3rd. So we share you pain at this time and know time will heal.
