Not sure what to say?

Peter & Joel and to all your family....This is the hardest part of our life right now is as we lose a parent who loved us and went thru all our crazy-ies at ELHS..and in the neighborhood. My cousin from North Carolina, Butch Robinson, remembers all my friends from the neighborhood when he visited in our 5th/6th grade summer. He spoke of you, Peter! The celebration of your dad's life was yesterday and now, the warm memories will bless you as they will be with you every day. I lost my dad...

To Peter and all of the Hoffman family ... What a wonderful man your husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was to all of you. How well I remember Dr. Hoffman, having grown up in East Lansing in the same neighborhood as your parents and grandparents once lived. My thoughts and prayers are with your family as this great patriarch of the Hoffman family will live within each of you always.

Dear Hoffman family,
We heard the sad news of the passing of our wonderful neighbor Hoffy. We feel the sorrow of your loss since we lost our own father Art two years ago. Art and Hoffy were WWII Navy officers and both had distinguished academic careers at MSU. They represent the best and brightest of their generation, and we're sorry to see them go. Although we've been away from the old East Lansing neighborhood for many decades, we still have fond memories of all of you: Alice,...

I am so sorry for your loss. One of the most outstanding people I have ever met in my life is Betsy Hoffman - his grand daughter.. Betsy has said that he shaped her life. Thank you Julius for one of the most wonderful gifts of friendship I have ever received. I am lucky to know her and grateful to you. Rest well dear man. Your influence on this earth will last forever.

Hoffie was one of my traveling companions during my years in the Office of Admissions and Scholarships. He always had a gleam in his eye, a story to tell or a limerick to recite. He was a dear friend and colleague. My condolences to the Hoffman family. We will all miss him.

Hoffie & Alice had set a standard for Faye & I to emulate--they will always be our model couple, especially for the puckish joy with which Hoffie embraced life, and the understanding gentleness with which Alice tethered him back to the planet. He is missed.

Neighborhood Watch

Hoffy was a great neighbor. He never stopped teaching after his retirement. He taught us to take time to celebrate the Rhododendrons, and the constellations in the night sky. He taught us the value of a good neighbor and left us with an example to follow. He taught us to embrace life at every age… and laugh and laugh and laugh. He was the life of our parties, the helping hand, the story teller, and a fountain of information, warmth, generosity and juicy gossip. We will miss the...

Oh Hoffie! Your neighbors will forever miss you!!!

Dear Hoffman and Elaine,
I hope you know you have my deepest sympathy. You were both so good to your father. Take time to remember the wonderful moments. I will be thinking of you in the next few days. Enjoy the time together!!!
