June Was Always So Kind & Gracious To Me. I Took Tea Ceremony From Her Mother In Law For Many Years In The Late 1970’s. One Of The Highlights Was When Soju Took Us To The Japanese Garden & We Made Tea In The Tea House. It Was Snowing Outside & Very Cold. Soju Taught Me Many Lessons That I Will Always Remember:
Walk Like You Walk To God.
Soju: I Make Tea For Buddha; You Make Tea For Jesus.
Once She Taught Us How To Respect Our Elders By Using A Single Violet:
Mama Have...

June was first my friend as Barbara Graven - through 4-H, and Gresham High School, where I was included in a small group of girls who had attended elementary school together.
When we graduated, she and I were chosen as Multnomah county's lucky girls to live in Azalea House, the new co-op at Oregon State which was the product of much planning and funding by the county extension women around the state.
We had such fun together, always. We stayed in touch throughout the years, and saw...

Our family moved from Japan to Portland in 1991 and soon after had the good fortune of befriending June and Hiro Moriyasu.

June (and Hiro) showed us so much kindness and warmth, taking us into their lives, inviting us to their home or visiting ours on many occasions.

June just brightened and blessed the lives of everyone she met. Her goodness, gentleness and wisdom -- and many many hugs -- added so much to our lives.

With our fond memories, and loving thoughts,...

I will miss June, my respected teacher, in and out of the tea room. She became a beloved friend, with her sense of humor, equanimity, and kindness to all. I admired her intention to make life fun, her connection to other realms and her commitment to teaching tea. I will miss her love and quiet attention. June will always be held deep in my heart.

We were so surprised to hear June has passed. She was such a dynamic person and warm and wonderful neighbor. We will miss her presence as we miss Hiro's. They added much to our children's lives on 57th Ave. Love to all the family.

June always smiled -- at least as I remember her, since about 1961. Dear Daughters, my deep condolences.

June attended my wife-Yoko's memorial service three years ago, and she showed me a necklace that she was wearing. And she told me that my mother gave to her.

I first met Hiro and June in the fall in 1968 after I applied and hired a job at Tektronix. Later I went to their previous house on a winding road. There were four small and cute children with all Japanese names. They were all singing and dancing. June had nice smile like Mona Lisa. The entire family greeted me with warm...

Despite a full, busy life, June seemed to find time to be mentor, friend, and counselor to so many. This great lady, who taught me about tea gardens and tea ceremony, will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Steve, thank you for your beautiful message. Such a nice surprise. I hope you are doing well, I have great memories of working together so many years ago. Tamae
