Justin J. Duffy had a knack for easing tensions between others. He was the kind of guy who was successful at anything he tried and was quick to jump in when needed, said his father, Joseph. "When there''s a job to do, he was the first one there," he said. Duffy, 31, of Cozad, Neb., died June 2 in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to Fort Bragg. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a criminal justice degree. He had served since November in Iraq, providing escort security for a general and other high-ranking Army officers. As a bar bouncer, he gently took keys from people who had too much to drink or diffused angry situations with a calm word. Sgt. Robert Pangaro, Duffy''s best friend from Fort Bragg, told mourners about how Duffy used to find him during the darkest days of Army special forces training and slip a piece of food or a kind look his way. Duffy was originally from Moline, Ill., though moved to Cozad with his family while in the sixth grade. He graduated from high school in 1995. He also is survived by his mother, Janet.

Not sure what to say?

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Justin J. Duffy US Army Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by...

A good friend, and a good comrade.

With much respect for my fellow protector and provider of our freedom. We shared the same name, we shared the same age. It's beautiful to see the impact you had upon so many.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Justin J. Duffy:
It has truly been my honor to sign Justin's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Justin will always be remembered in my home.
