Kristan Funeral Home - Mundelein Obituary

Justin Teague McGrath of Mundelein, IL was born in Chicago on June 24, 1971 and he passed from this world Sunday evening, June 4, 2023, leaving behind his much bereaved loved ones, mother Denise, brother, Zachary, his dearly loved Amber and her young son Tommy, and his myriad of extended family and friends from the Irish Mill Inn and around the world.

They were all blessed to know him, love him, and have him in their lives.

Justin operated the Irish Mill Inn located in Mundelein, for the last 16 years and he touched the lives of all who came in, greeting them with his beautiful smile, gracious wit and intelligent conversation.

Justin graduated from New Trier High School, attended Gustavus Adolphus College, and graduated both National Louis University with degrees in Psychology and History and Kendell College Culinary Institute. He was a great chef, but more than that he was a great person, filled with compassion, generosity, and kindness to all.  He loved animals and cared for his 3 dogs and every stray cat that ventured into his life.  His love for people, animals and the beauty of this world was a site to behold.

Justin was smart, witty and compassionate.  He learned to read at age 3 and he was never far from his beloved books. He knew more history in his little finger than most people know in their entire life. He would listen with care and kindness to all, always smiling, and encouraging people to persevere and meet their dreams.

Justin’s warmth, smile and profound goodness will be tremendously missed. We raise a toast to you, Dear Justin, you will remain with us forever. Suaimhneas Siorai Air, eternal rest be upon you, Dear Justin.

Justin will be laid to rest next to his dear father, Patrick, whom he loved so much.

An Irish celebration of his life will be held at the Irish Mill Inn, 26592 Highway 83 North, Mundelein, IL on Sunday, June 11th from 5pm to close, with a service for Justin earlier in the day at Kristan Funeral Home located at 219 West Maple Avenue, Mundelein at 12 till 2pm with words of comfort , music and the reading of the 23rd Psalm at 2pm. Burial to follow at Waldheim Cemetery, Forest Park, IL and then back to the Mill.

Not sure what to say?

Justin was a year ahead of me at New Trier High School. We were both on the football team, and although we weren't close we were acquaintances who shared a joke here and there. I remember Justin being someone who was fair and knew when not to joke too much, but also made people feel at home. I was much bigger than him but I remember he hit well above his weight on the football field, much respect. About 25 years after high school we re-connected on facebook. We msged a few times catching up,...

Aunt Denise—we are all thinking of you up in Alaska and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers as Justin’s 1 year anniversary approaches. We love you.

Justin was one of my best friends in college. And then after. He was amazing. He was the guy everyone turned to to find out where the party would be! He was always the man.

The man you could count on. The man who loved to have fun. And the man you always wanted to be around.

He was a great guy, incredible friend, amazing son, and the hardest worker. His sense of humor and kindness were unmatched. And he worked so hard to make his dad proud. And he did. You could count...

Denise, My condolences on the passing of your son. Your family will be in our prayers. Michael A. De Fazio
