The world of cardiology was changed for the better because of Dr. Chatterjee. His greatest legacy lives on in the thousands of cardiologists he trained. Each one felt personal connection to him. His style was kind and reassuring. He was revered by all who knew him. He will be missed.

what a master clinician and human being. As a young intern i would present cases to him in the CCU and he would kindly put his hand on my shoulder and say "chris... this is not angina". He would perform a physical exam and put his hand on the PMI of the heart and the other on the carotid and say " Ejection fraction will be 36%" - and damned if he wasn't always right on. One of the most amazing times was when he said "listen here, this is Dock's murmur" the murmur of stenosis of the LAD....

As a Hospice and Palliative Care specialist now, I make 20 house calls a week, where there are no echocardiograms or EKG's. Thank God I was trained by Kanu Chatterjee who taught us how to do a meaningful cardiac exam! His students know how much he prepared us for our careers...

I was Kanu's first UCSF Cardiology fellow. He was a master teacher of the physical exam which I was able to pass on to my students. We enjoyed many discussions about India where I had traveled in the early 60's. I will miss him
