Not sure what to say?

When I looked up Kamela Portuges, I was shocked to learn she passed away just two years ago. I was attending UCSC in 2019 where I attended her Pixar lectures. I had told her that I wanted to be an animator despite what my two studies were and the fact that I haven't done any animation at all. She looked at my art and was shocked what I was doing there. She told me to go and do my best and work my portfolio because she saw potential in me. Her words inspired me to push my limits and pursue...

I know this is really late, but I just found out about Kamela. She did puppetry for a TV show from my childhood, and having had the opportunity to speak to her about that experience a few years ago was incredible! My condolences to her family, friends, and everyone else who knew and cared about her.

I met Professor Portuges during my first year of college in her Pixar class at UC Santa Cruz. Before taking the class, I was unwilling to academically step outside of my comfort zone. Desperate to do well in her class, I would attend office hours consistently for her help. I still can clearly remember how interested she was in my personal life and goals. She constantly found ways to help me explore a more creative side of myself. I had just thought to reconnect with her. We talked about this...

I met Kamela through SCBWI meetings (children book writing and illustrating). She hosted one of the events at her home and studio. I am saddened at her early and unexpected passing. She was such a bright light and lovely, kind, and creature person. Condolences to Kieron and the family.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
