Besides all the family gatherings for which she lovingly contributed to the planning and cooking, I remember several treasured adventures with Karen as we shared our interest in field biology. Here is a 2003 photo of Karen and I on a beach at low tide on San Juan Island, Washington. Karen was a wonderful and caring co-worker and friend. She always had a smile on her face an never forgot a reason to give a present. She adored teaching, her kids, music, Neil, nature and of course, her cats. The world needs more people like Karen and she will always hold a special place in my heart.

Cluster of 50 Memorial Trees

We, Jim and Michiyo, are saddened by Karen's passing. We treasured the times we shared with Karen as our family and friend. She touched our hearts and souls in uniquely profound ways. We miss her presence terribly, but her memories are with us always.

Grove of 100 Memorial Trees

I had Karen for Biology and interviewed her for the student newspaper where she shared her thoughts on how science and religion are two sides of the same coin. I was inspired by her love of science and her humanity. My prayers are with the family.

Karen and I were dear friends since sixth grade. She was the kindest, most thoughtful and loving friend anyone could have! She was always at my side when I really needed a friend! Bob and I always loved it when Karen and Neil traveled with us! We always had a great time and learned a lot too! Matt and Ka were blessed to have such a great Mom, and Karen was blessed to have two children who took such loving care of her when she needed them the most! May God bless you both! Love to you...

I was one of the students lucky enough to go with Karen on one of her tree identification walks. This began my love of trees. I remember her often with good memories of her Biology class, it was one of my favorites. Bless you Karen and Rest In Peace.
