Not sure what to say?

I met Karen through Kathleen Kershaw with whom I worked in the early 1990's. Both she and Kathleen were dear friends and encouraging to me in so many ways, advising me to buy my first home and later, sharing their lovely home in Nevada City with my partner and me. I have many, many fond memories of Karen's smile, her lovely calm energy, her ability to listen, her subtle wit and loving warmth.

Karen helped me train to qualify for the Boston Marathon in 1980. She paced me in the Chico Marathon to help me qualify. We went to Boston together and ran the race, only to see at the finish line claiming victory, Rosie Ruiz. We knew by looking at her that she wasn't the real winner. We traveled after the event to Washington DC and had a great time. She was always a calm mentor to me in my running days. My sympathy to her family in this time of sorrow.

Karen was a reference librarian at SFPL when I arrived fresh out of library school at UC Berkeley in 1962. We worked closely until I left SFPL to move to Monterey to become a librarian at Monterey Peninsula College. She has always been etched in my memory and I can still see her in the old main library building busily answering reference questions but always smiling. What a team we were and I miss those times and miss the people who are slowly disappearing. My thoughts are with her family...

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
