KAREN FARMER UMBARGER, 68, of Bastian, VA went to be with the Lord she faithfully served on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at her home. She was born March 11, 1956, in Bluefield, WV, the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson & Oma Lee Sadler Farmer.

She was a financial analyst for A.B.B. for 31 years. She was an active, hard worker who loved hiking and the outdoors, and loved working on their family farm beside her husband of 50 years, the love of her life.

Karen was a faithful member of New Hope Union Church for 50 years. She served as the children's Sunday school teacher during her 50 years of membership and was the pianist for many years. She enjoyed doing the Lord's work with her church family.

Karen was a loving and very dedicated mother, wife and grandmother. She was very proud to be a granny and called "Pumpkin". Like her mother and father, she possessed the gift to cheer up and leave a lasting kind impact on everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by all whom she knew and loved.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 50 years, Tommy Umbarger; her son & daughter-in-law, Jonathan & Krystle Umbarger; her granddaughter, Layla Beth; her grandsons, Ethan Grose and Braiden Grose; her brother & sister-in-law, Mike & Diane Farmer; her nephew, Michael Shannon Farmer, II; her niece, Carol Anne Farmer Tawney, a great niece and great nephew. And special Nieces in law  and nephews in law Mark Gregory, Bethany Gregory, James Umbarger and Sarah Harendt

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Alan Ashworth and Pastor Ron Johnson officiating.  Burial will take place Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 2:00P.M. in Morning Star Cemetery.  There will be no public visitation service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Karen’s honor to the Bland Ministry Center, P.O. Box 211, Bland, VA 24315.

The Umbarger family is in the care of A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, avestandsons.com, (540) 921-2985.

Not sure what to say?

I have such fond memories of working with Karen and enjoyed our friendship so much when I lived in Bland county. She had such a warm, funny, loving personality. She lived her faith. Karen was such a wonderful lady in every way. I send heartfelt prayers for Tom and the family and her loved ones at church and in the community.

I worked with Karen during her years at ABB, knew her even longer. What a wonderful lady! Always upbeat, always helpful. A pure pleasure to know. My condolences to the family. She will surely be missed.

My condolences to all of the family. Karen fought a long, hard battle with much bravery and grace. So sorry for the grief her family has to bear.

I have known Karen all of her life, and everything said in her obituary is very true. She was always positive, and upbeat. A real encourager to others. Even though she suffered for many years she never complained. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we know that she is "home" with her Lord and is no longer suffering. My deepest sympathy to Tommy and the entire family.
