Karl "Barney" Deak

Mr. Deak was my wrestling coach (along with Mr. Don Clark) for four years at HHS. He was a remarkable and inspiring man who taught me many things I still use later in life. There was a rumor that his full name was "Karl Arthur Edward Deak,' obviously spelling "D-E-A-K" backwards. The world needs more men like Mr. Deak.

Barney was instrumental in causing me to attend Colorado State College way back in 1958. He was also my best man in Denver in 1964. Every time I was back in the Region to see family we got together , went golfing and to the Odd fellows Club. He was truly one of a kind. Best wishes and condolences to the boys and their families.

My sympathy to Mr. Deak´s family, especially his sons. Mr. Deak was my English teacher for my Freshman and Senior years. One day in his class was more valuable than 100 with another teacher. Mr. Deak´s teaching greatly influenced me as a teacher and I channeled him many times while teaching grammar and writing to 6th graders. He made the world a better place. Rest in peace.
