Not sure what to say?

I think I was the first person he hired after becoming ISU extension information leader. He set us up in Ames - we had nothing at the time - with a table, bed and TV. From 1963-1960 he was my mentor, my boss (the best ever) and friend. Bob Kern: a great communicator, a great American.

I had the privilege of studying Engish with Bob, an outstanding instructor
during his ISNAR assignments at The Hague (Netherlands) in the early nineties.

We corresponded ever since and shared ideas and pleasantries, having developed a warm friendship as kindred spirits and "birds of a feather" despite the distance and changing undertakings!

Bob was a great person whose friendship through many years as a member of AACE I cherished greatly.
We shared many emails and I will miss his candid views on
so many subjects.

I worked with Karl at Iowa State in the early 70s. He was an inspirational and attentive supervisor for this young professional. Last year, I got to see him again at a Morrill Hall luncheon. As vibrant and sharp as ever. He made so many contributions to this world. Cherish his memory.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. My parents, Wayne and Louise Swegle, spent many years as friends and colleagues of Bob and Verna, starting with their shared Iowa State experiences. Dad moved to Green Hills in Ames based on Bob's recommendation and lived there until his death in 2015. I often emailed Bob and found him to be so very nice. He will be missed very much.

We are sorry to hear of Bob's death but have many good memories of both he and Verna. Verna and I were new to the ISU PEW staff at the same time. I especially enjoyed getting together for sing a long at their home. They were such special people and will be missed by many.
