I have the best memories from when driving across the US with my young children, Karl and Anne introduced us to Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay as we stopped on our way to Maine.

Robin, so sorry for your loss. Your Dad sounds like such an interesting person, who lived a full and adventurous life. I am intrigued that he and your Mom thought that Edward de Vere was "Shakespeare." May you and your family find comfort in your many wonderful memories of your father.
