Dr. Steven´s was my strength of materials professor. Ocean Engineering class of 1980. He was, without a doubt, my favorite instructor. Patrick A Martin, PE

We will miss Karl and Roxie´s visits as we walked in the neighborhood or seeing Roxie in the back car window. Karl always had with his stick and thermos for his multi-hour walks. He told us stories and we shared being born in Kansas and educators. He was a great man to know in our short time. Much condolences to his family.

Karl and I served as deans together at Florida Atlantic, and I always enjoyed being his colleague. Although he was an engineer, and my field was in the humanities, we inevitably found plenty to talk about, and I truly enjoyed his sense of humor. He was one of the good ones, a model for how all deans (and people in general) really ought to be.

One day in May of 2004, I was walking over my property and thinking where I might build my home. Next thing I knew, a gentleman walked up to me and commented on that "lovely piece of heaven." Little had I imagined that four months later that same gentleman would purchase the property from me and begin to craft his "dream home" in his mind.
