Read MoreI didn't know Karl well but my sister, Caroline Homer, was his organist for years at The Dalles UCC (where I was choir director in the 1960s). Just got back from the mid-Columbia area for a reunion and Caroline's two sons, who attended there when they were teenagers, were surprised to learn of his demise. I wanted to send Karl's obit to them, which I just did.

Grateful for having Karl as colleague and friend during my time in TD. His humor, knowledge, deep theological reflection, and love of music were a gift to everyone who knew him. Deepest condolences to Jean and family in these days of loss and grief, even as we hold our faith in the crucified and risen Christ Jesus. Blessed be the memory of the Rev. Karl Vercouteren.

I'm sorry to hear of Karl's passing. For many years we've been good friends and lovers of local history. I was glad to see him named the 2025 Pioneer Man Of The Year at the Wasco County Pioneers Assn. meeting on May 4, 2025. My condolences to his family for the loss of Karl.
