KARL ZEIGLER Obituary

Karl W. Zeigler

October 23, 2011

Karl Wilfred Zeigler. Born near Messick, Henry County, Indiana, 8/21/1917. Died Cape Coral, FL, 10/23/2011. Married Miriam Esther Kangas on April 9, 1944 who preceded him in death in May, 2001. He is survived by his 5 children and their spouses: Karl Leonard and his wife, Carmen; Matt William and his wife, Heidi; David Russell and his wife, Deborah; Daniel Kangas and his wife, Christine; and Jane Alice Zeigler Leedle and her husband, Robert. He is also survived by his companion and friend, Peggy Reynolds, of Cape Coral and by 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Karl served in WWII in the South Pacific theater from 1944 to 1946, earning the rank of Lt Commander in the US Navy with the designation of being able to command a vessel underway in convoy. Following military service, he worked for the Miesel Company of Detroit, MI rising to Vice President of Sales for Sysco Foods. He and Miriam retired to Cape Coral in 1979 where they became active members of the German-American Social Club and of the Asbury Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Cape Coral, at 1:00 PM on Sunday, 11/13/2011. Burial will be beside Miriam, his wife of 57 years in Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock, Michigan.
