Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Coen, Katherine Maria, passed away on July 1, 2023 at the age of 33.

Beloved daughter of James and Jane Coen, Dearest sister of Stephanie Coen (Steve), Dearest twin sister of Angela Coen (Morgan), Dear niece of Patsy Des Roche. Dear cousin, friend and niece.

Kate was a 2008 graduate of Rockwood Summit High School and 2012 graduate of Webster University.

Kate was an extremely friendly and loving person. She had the best sense of humor and knew how to enjoy the little things in life and wanted to make everyday fun and adventurous. Kate loved to travel and took any chance she got to see somewhere new. Kate loved all animals and would take care of any animal that needed help. She loved dog sitting and cat sitting for friends and family and recently started walking dogs at Stray Rescue and Care STL.

We love you so much Kate and we will miss you every day. We are so grateful for the time we had with you.

Services: Funeral services private. As service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.

Not sure what to say?

I worked next to Kate for three years. She mentored me through my first years in the workforce and remains one of the kindest people I've ever worked with. I will always remember her infectious laugh and endearing emails. Everyone loved Kate! May she rest in peace.

Kate brought joy every single day she walked into the office. I had the absolute pleasure of working with her for a short time at Jewish Federation of St. Louis and loved her morning greetings and ways she made us all laugh. My life will forever be impacted by feeling her joy and zest for life and not a day goes by that I don't think about her. Sending prayers of comfort to Jane, James, and the rest of her family and friends. May her memory be a blessing.

Katie was one of the sweetest persons I’ve ever met. My heart goes out to Jim and Jane for their loss.

I read this story about the storms,I am so sorry Coen family. Please know people care,I wish you didn't have to feel this loss.

Kate, although we knew each other briefly while at Webster, you're someone I will never forget. Your smile and presence would always brighten any room you entered. Your laugh was full of joy and I couldn't help but to smile when I heard it; it always made me happy to be around you.

Rest peacefully.

Dear Coen Family,
We are devastated to hear the news. Kate was a true gem and left a lasting impression on many from our team; she will forever be in our hearts. To this day, many of us give the signature Kate 'Yaaay!" for little celebrations. Below is an excerpt from a letter I wrote for her when she moved from Seattle in 2015. You all remain in our thoughts...
~ Meghan Barry, Kate's former colleague

"I would like to emphatically recommend Kate Coen for a position with...

Dear James and family,

Words aren’t enough to take away your grief and pain but I hope they are enough to express my sadness and sympathy for you and your family. She’s a beautiful girl and human being. Please, if I can do anything at all, call me. You’re all in my prayers and thoughts everyday. Love to all.

My deepest sympathies for the family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Kate really embodied living each moment to its fullest. She found joy in the mundane, and really brightened every day. She was such a special person, and I feel lucky for having known her.
