So very sorry to read this news for the first time. I remember meeting Katherine when she moved back to Portland in 1996. She was a bright and talented person, passionate about her love for culinary delights. Rest in peace Katherine.

Endless gratitude, inspiration, and reverence for Katherine. What joy it was to witness her teaching youth the skills they need to cook with what they have! How lucky I was that she believed in me, the program I was operating, and that we were able to share our fierce commitment to food justice in both serious conversation and laughter.

Wir leben in Deutschland und konnten leider nicht zur Beerdigung kommen. Mit unseren Freunden Heidi und Herbert pflanzten wir eine Zypresse in unserem Garten auf der Giebelhardt für Katherine. Hier verbrachte Katherine ein paar Jahre ihrer Kindheit. Bei unseren Besuchen der Familie Deumling in Oregon haben wir auch immer Katherine, Brian und Ellis getroffen. Diese Zeit ist unvergesslich schön. Wir senden Euch auf diesem Weg unser tiefes Mitgefühl.

I was sorry not to be able to get to Portland to help celebrate the life of this remarkable human being, one of the best and most cherished students of my whole teaching career, who continued to inspire me for years afterward through her blog and occasional meetings in Walla Walla. Love snd sympathy to her whole family
