Katherine Tina Freeman was born December 22, 1922 to Epesy and Tina Thompson in Columbia, SC. Katherine was the oldest of three children, French Thompson and Clara Hollinger, relocated to Indianapolis, IN, where she graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1942.
Katherine met and married her husband Henry Freeman on May 19, 1945 at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, in Newport, where they raised five children, Pamela, Michael, Gregory, Karen and Thomas.
Katherine worked as a dietary aide at the Newport Naval Base and then at Manpower at the Naval Cafeteria until her retirement. After retirement Katherine continued to live at home with her son Thomas until her health began to fail, then she moved to Philadelphia, PA to live with her daughter, Pamela.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Freeman, her son Gregory Freeman and brother French Thompson.
Katherine leaves to mourn four children, Pamela Freeman (Philadelphia, PA), Michael Freeman (Anise) (Allentown, PA), Karen Freeman Jones (Rennie deceased) (Cleveland, OH) and Thomas Freeman (Newport); nine grandchildren, Leon Freeman (Karen) (Providence), Pascal Freeman (Curtis Nelson), Monique Freeman (Newport), El Freeman (Newport News, VA), Thomas Freeman, Jr. (Newport), Justin Freeman (Allentown, PA), Janelle Freeman (Philadelphia, PA), Rennie Jones IV (Cleveland, OH), Kathryn Jones (Cleveland, OH); twelve great-grandchildren, Rennie VI, Raenez Jones, Pascal Jones Amerson, RJ Jones, Remy Jones, Terrance Freeman, Dominic Freeman, Alexander Freeman, Jonathan Freeman and Mya Freeman; and Talma Freeman, Audrey Freeman, as well as a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus F. Wheatland Boulevard, Newport, RI 02840.
