Katherine Anne Slattery, of San Francisco, was taken to heaven on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the age of 26. She was born on April 14, 1990 in Denver, CO. She graduated from St. Eugene School and Divine Savior Holy Angels High School in Milwaukee, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison with her degree in Mechanical Engineering. Kate was the beloved daughter of John and Margaret (Desmond) Slattery, and the devoted sister of Thomas and Stephen. She was the sweet granddaughter of Harry and Barbara Desmond, and Thomas and Loretta Slattery. She is remembered with love by her many relatives and friends.
Kate made the most of God's gifts to her. She had a vibrant personality, and her boundless enthusiasm carried her through countless new adventures. From traveling abroad, to taking ballet lessons, to rock climbing, camping, biking, and skiing in the great outdoors that she loved so much, Kate made the most of every single day. A beloved and respected team member at SolarCity, Kate challenged herself and others to work toward a global mission of renewable energy and sustainability. For such a small person, Kate was a huge force of energy. She brought her indomitable positive spirit to everyone she met, whether it was women engineers she mentored, or the friends she brought together over big home-cooked meals. Never content to waste a moment, Kate used her signature blend of creativity and logic to write and produce a children's book, "Fly with Maya," to teach young girls both about the wonder Kate saw in engineering, and that they, like Kate, could follow their dreams across the world. Kate loved children, and even as a brilliant, talented professional woman, continued to see the world through their eyes as a place of endless possibility. A shining light for family and friends, Kate is now with God; she is in the Light.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kate's memory to the Society of Women Engineers, 203 N. La Salle Street, Suite 1675, Chicago, IL 60601 (www.societyofwomenengineers.swe.org), Give Power Foundation (www.givepower.org), or St. Eugene School, 7600 N. Port Washington Rd, Fox Point, WI 53217 (www.steugeneschool.com).
Family will greet friends and relatives on Wednesday, June 29 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at Feerick Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 30, at 11:00 AM at St. Eugene Catholic Church, on the corner of Port Washington Rd. and Calumet Rd., Fox Point. Interment will be private for the family.
