Katherine Stambuk Obituary

Katherine M. Stambuk
November 23, 1922 - April 24, 2022
Sacramento, California -
Katherine (Katie) Stambuk passed away peacefully April 24, 2022, just seven months shy of her 100th birthday. Born to George Stambuk and Katrina (Katica) Pavlov on November 23, 1922, in Sacramento, CA. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Madeleine Bartlett (Emery) and Betty Bogue (Glen) and her brother, Anthony Stambuk (Virginia).
Katie graduated from Saint Joseph's Academy in 1940. She retired from McClellan Air Force Base after 50 plus years of service as secretary to eight colonels. She never married and never drove a car and would often say that is why she "lived so long". While she had no children of her own, she was a very proud Godmother to many. She took great pride in her appearance, was always meticulously dressed. Her hair was perfect. Her favorite color was purple so many of her outfits were in shades of purple or lavender.
Katie was active in various Croatian clubs (The American Slavic Social Club and the Ljubica Club) and she enjoyed many events at the Croatian American Cultural Center.
She loved sports, especially the SF Giants, and would enjoy going to River Cats and Kings games with her nephew, Marc where she would enjoy a hot dog and beer. She also loved attending the California State Fair with family members for more hot dogs and beer.
Everyone will remember receiving cards from Katie for their birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and special occasions! She never missed an occasion to send a card. Family often said she should have owned stock in Hallmark!
Katie loved her family and looked forward to spending holidays with them. She is survived by her nieces Kathy Heavens and Tammy Chapman, her nephews Larry Bogue (Cindy), Marc Stambuk (Lari), and Jeff Stambuk (Carol). Her cousins Ron Angell (Cecelia) and Vince Angell (Phyllis), and many great-nieces, nephews, and 2nd cousins.
Graveside funeral services will be held at St. Mary Cemetery on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
Katie's family is grateful for the compassionate care she received from the staff of Soaring Oaks Residential Care in Elk Grove, CA. A special "thank you" to Emily, Carlo, and Orlando.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Katie's honor to your favorite charity.

For years I knew Katie as she performed her
secretarial duties for the military leaders at
Procurement/Contracting at McClellan AFB. She was a pleasure to know and I enjoyed receiving many greeting cards from her (written in purple ink!) Rest in peace with the Lord Katie!!
