Brilliant and big hearted - thanks for all the joy you spread, Kathie

We are sorry to hear of Kathie's passing and I know she will be missed by the community; while we haven't had a lot of chances to interact with Kathie over the past few years, I was always amazed at the people I would run into from out of the area, even old high school friends, who were unsure where Upper Black Eddy was, but always knew who Kathie was and where Riverview antiques was.

When we think of Kathie, it's her never ending smile and wonderful laugh that we remember first. Being from Rhode Island, it was only once or twice a year that we got a chance to see her. Our talks over dinner after the films were exciting and fun and we all usually agreed on the quality of the film. Kathie’s intellegence impressed me and her kindness even more. She will be missed by her frequent shop visitors as well as me, her Friday Shop Keeper. Peace be with you Kathie.

I met Kathie around 2004 when my husband, Richard G Smith (Smitty) began working in her antique shop. After being employed as a glassblower for 30 years, Smitty appreciated how lucky he was to have a job refurbishing, researching and being a buyer of antiques (his other lifelong passion). He and Kathie had a wide range of knowledge. Kathie’s expertise in jewelry, pottery, porcelain, paintings, and furnitureSmitty’s in glass, furniture and Asian artifacts. Their knowledge overlapped and...
