Baker Funeral Home - Queensbury Obituary

QUEENSBURY, NY - Kathleen M. Day, 86 passed away on Monday May 12, 2025, at Saratoga Hospital.

Born April 19, 1939, in Manhattan, NY, she was the daughter of James O’Connell and Marjorie (Ashley) Mitchell.

As a young child she enjoyed all the sites that NYC had to offer with her sister Eva and their grandmother; the one she spoke of most often was the Bronx Zoo. Later her family returned to rural South Hadley, MA where “sometimes the cows came right up to your kitchen window.”

Kathy attended Notre Dame Academy in Tyngsboro, MA graduating in 1956. She continued her education at Trinity College, Washington DC, completing her degree in 1960. Kathy returned to Massachusetts and began her career in retail at Filene’s in Boston. She continued her retail journey at G Fox and Luettgens Limited in Hartford. Later she switched gears and worked as a sales manager at Wagner Ford in Simsbury, CT. When she retired, she moved to Pawleys Island, SC where she enjoyed spending time with friends, volunteering with SCUTE - SC United Turtle Enthusiasts and Altar Guild at The Abbey at Pawleys Island.

In 2023, she decided to move to the Glens Falls area to be closer to family. She quickly found friends that became like family at The Willows in Queensbury. They all enjoyed spending time together having coffee & muffins, working on puzzles in the gathering room, sharing their love of books and reading, playing bingo, planning potluck meals and celebrating birthdays each month. She enjoyed attending The Church of the Holy Cross in Warrensburg where she made many new friends and was able to reconnect with Father Jason Radcliff who she had first met at The Abbey in Pawleys Island.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was predeceased by her husband John F. Day; and her sister, Eva M. O’Connell.

Kathy is survived by her daughter, Marybeth Chambers; son-in-law, David Chambers; and grandson, Brett Chambers.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Joshua and Christina from Albany Visiting Nurses, Dr. Stephen Monn, Dr. Darci Grubbs and Dr. Adam Mace, Glens Falls Hospital ER/ICU staff and Saratoga Hospital ICU staff.

There will be no services. Burial will be held privately at St Jerome’s Cemetery in Holyoke, MA.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Glens Falls Hospital Foundation; Church of the Holy Cross, Warrensburg, NY; Friends of Crandall Public Library, Glens Falls, NY; or a charity of your choice.

Condolences may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
