Kathleen Johnson Obituary

1953 ~ 2014
Kathleen Gerber Johnson was born on August 7, 1953 to Janet Carlisle and Glade Gerber. At the age of 11, Kathy declared to her family that she was going to marry Scott Johnson, her neighbor, when she was 23. Three weeks after she turned 23, Kathy and Scott were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived and raised their four children in Fresno/Clovis, CA for 30 years before moving back to Utah last year.
Always firm in her convictions, Kathy fought injustice in all its forms, from prejudice to ill-informed policy. She knew the scriptures, but more importantly knew her Savior and inspired others through teaching and example. Kathy had a golden touch for planning, decorating, painting and organizing. She could create order out of a chaotic pantry or a disorganized church youth program. Kathy's family were her dearest friends and her friends became her family.
After a 3-month battle with brain cancer, Kathy passed away on December 18, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Scott; daughters, Becky Jensen, Whitney Levano (Adolfo), and Jenny; son, Clayton (Jenna); grandchildren, Thomas, Anne, and David; sisters, Linda Smith (Doug) and Nancy Ward; brother, Steve Gerber (Lisa). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27th at 11am at the LDS chapel on 6411 West 11800 North in Highland, UT 84003, with a viewing starting at 9:30am. There will also be a viewing Friday night from 6-8pm at Wasatch Lawns Mortuary at 3401 South Highland Drive in SLC 84106.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the YWCA at ywca.org (Battered Women's Shelter).

Scott, I just found about Kathy. I am so sorry for you and your family. She was an amazing person. I had a good visit with her just a month or two before she passed away and she was still her bubbling self. She will be missed by all.

We are thinking of you all this morning and wish we could be with you. We admire Kathy immensely. We are remembering how much fun it was to live across the hall from Kathy and Scott as graduate students in Ithaca--they were there through our courtship and early marriage years. Thirty years later, Kathy's homemade whole wheat bread recipe is still our very favorite.
