She lived abroad in The Netherlands and became fluent in five languages, working after college in foreign affairs and national security, later traveling extensively with Pan American airlines. In 1970, she married Kenneth D. McBride of Groton, in her hometown of Clarks Green (Scranton), Pa. She and her husband resided in Ledyard, where they raised their family and later moved to Groton Bank. Mrs. McBride obtained her master's degree from Connecticut College in French literature and continued applying her love of languages by teaching at Pine Point School, Norwich Free Academy and Connecticut College.

Mrs. McBride is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth; her daughter, Sarah McBride M.D. of Dover, Mass.; her son, Aaron McBride and his wife, Nancy, of San Francisco, Calif.; five grandchildren, Dillon, Meredith, Benjamin, Cillian and Riordan; her sisters, Barbara Yates of New London, Martha Yates-Linde and her husband, Rick, of New York and Pamela Yates and her husband, Paco de Onís, of New York; sister-in-law, Beth Mancini and her husband, Richard, of Gales Ferry; brother-in-law, Kevin McBride of Ledyard; and nine nieces and nephews.

Beloved by all, she was a selfless and devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. She was curious and a lifelong learner, fun-loving and enjoyed studying different cultures and countries through international travel. Her beautiful mind, spirited and clever demeanor, her smile and laughter will never be forgotten by those fortunate enough to know her.

Ken and Family,
My heart breaks for you all. Kathleen was a wonderful person with a heart of gold. I will miss my time with her. I have so many memories . She was not just my patent but my friend. We did a lot together, from swimming to baking cookies or just sitting at the movies after a show to see her sons name in the Credits. Such a strong person. A wonderful friend. Rest in peace Kathleen
