Clavin Funeral Home - Brooklyn Obituary

Kathleen McNicholas passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024 in Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania. Beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Cleary). Dear sister of Patricia Gabriel (the late Ed), the late Mary McNicholas, Elizabeth Peterson (Robert), Eileen McFadden (Joe), and the late Thomas McNicholas, Jr. Proud aunt of Brian Peterson (Ashley), Colleen Freeman (nee Peterson; Rich), Karen McFadden, Elizabeth Gabriel, Maureen McFadden, Victoria Gabriel, and great-aunt of Shawn Freeman, Kerrigan Peterson, Aiden Freeman, and Quinn Peterson.

A proud lifelong Brooklynite, she embraced the closeness of city life as a caring, invested, and friendly neighbor to those she lived and worked around. You always knew when she was talking to you by the way she elongated the vowels in your name and welcomed you with her unmistakable “Helloooooo!” Affectionately known to family as “The Matriarch,” (although she amassed a number of other nicknames later in life), she made sure large and small events alike were commemorated with gifts and trinkets for everyone. She will continue to be warmly remembered by those who rest under the numerous blankets she thoughtfully crocheted as gifts (including for feline family members).

In her most recent years, Kathleen shed her rigid daily routines and retired from her longtime position at Lee Spring, where she was a dedicated and well loved colleague for over 40 years. From there, Kathleen seemed to begin a whole new life: she moved out of Brooklyn, became vegan, traveled Ireland by car for weeks, and even got her first tattoo at 72-years-old. Through all of this, her love for classic movies and music, including her favorites: John Wayne, The Rat Pack, Etta James, and Dean Martin, never wavered or diminished.

Now her family grieves the loss of a pillar of the family. Join us in celebrating her life and memories. There will be a viewing on Friday, February 16 from 6:00 - 9:00PM at Clavin Funeral Home, and Mass on Saturday, February 17 at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Angels.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Kathleen's memory to a charity of your choice.
