Kathleen Rathey

1948 - 2022

Kathleen Ann Spence Rathey (born December 27, 1948) passed away September 11, 2022 at the age of 73 at home with her family after a long battle with illness. She was a native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of Gentilly and New Orleans East until Hurricane Katrina, when she moved to Covington, LA. Kathy was the daughter of the late Tom Spence and Rita Lanson Spence. She is survived by her siblings Vita Spence Scholl (John) and Matthew P. Spence, niece Elizabeth R. Spence, and numerous cousins. Kathy attended St. Raphael Elementary School on Elysian Fields and L. E. Rabouin Vocational High School. She was employed as a Walmart associate for 25 years. She enjoyed cooking, bowling, watching movies, and spending time with her family. The family would like to express their gratitude to her longtime caregiver Ms. Louise Seymour, who made Kathy's life brighter every day with her care and compassion. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home., 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. with a Memorial Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Cemetery and Mausoleum.
