Kathy Cole Obituary

Kathy Cole passed away peacefully at University Medical Center, New Orleans, LA, on September 4, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kathy was born July 14, 1949, in Winnsboro, South Carolina, to her parents, Willie Lee and Kathleen Stevenson Bradwell, and moved in 1960 to Baton Rouge, LA. It is there she resided with her husband of 38 years, Charlie Cole, at Santa Maria Plantation on Old Perkins Road. Kathy received her BA degree in English from LSU in 1971, and then began a long and successful career in real estate. Initially working with CJ Brown Realtors, she and Charlie began their own development company, with their gem being the Santa Maria Golf Community. Beyond their numerous business activities, Kathy enjoyed a passion for travel, great foods, cooking, fine arts, and discovering and restoring classic antique furnishings. With her generous and caring spirit, she cherished maintaining close relations with a wide circle of family and friends. Charlie and Kathy have been avid globe trotters with incredible adventures around the world. One of her absolute favorite destinations was Paris. She loved everything French. With the help of several courses, Kathy became proficient in the language and the cuisine. Some of her most enjoyable summers were spent on a canal boat that she and Charlie lovingly restored, and motored along many of the large and small waterways throughout Europe. So thoroughly beautiful in appearance and richly endowed with Christian spirit, Kathy gave abundantly and freely of herself. She and Charlie have gone on dozens of missions to countries in Central America, as well as Sri Lanka and India. Together they touched so many lives with true Christian spirit. Her charming smile, her gracious manner, her sweet caring and concern for others, her wit and her wisdom were admired by so many who love her. The world will miss her greatly. On her side of the family, Kathy leaves behind her brother, Anthony Eugene Bradwell, and nieces, Daun Bradwell Calvert (Thomas), Brandi Bradwell Lea (Michael), Debbie Bradwell Weaver (Robert), and Tara Bradwell Chu (Rex), and is predeceased by her brother, Willie Lee Bradwell. On Charlie's side of the family, she is survived by her sisters-in-law, Kitty Cole Ingram (Don), Carmen Cole Delgado (Miguel), Ruby Cole, and brother-in-law, Jerry Jameson (Sally Cole Jameson deceased) with nieces Jennifer Munson (Scott), Jill Griffis (Michael), Katie Jobert (Ryan), Candice Delgado, and nephews Cole Ingram (Melayna), Michael Delgado (Laura), Kyle Ingram (Liz), and Patrick Jameson. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, September 16, at Como Plantation (5000 Como Road, St Francisville, LA - do not use Waze) including visitation at the main house from 9-10:00 am followed by a funeral service conducted by Reverend Danny Dyer at the Chapel at Como from 10:30-11:30 am. Burial will also be at Como around noon followed by a jazz luncheon at the main house. The celebration will be a traditional plantation service with a second line planned, so appropriate footwear is encouraged for those attending along with umbrellas in case of rain. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Charlet Funeral Home (Baton Rouge, La: 225-654-4480; charletfuneralhome.com); flowers by Mia Sophia Florist (St. Francisville, LA: 225-635-3337).

I recently remembered the time Kathy and Charlie drove Keith and I out to what was to become our new home in Santa Maria. We were almost knee deep in the mud. We all laughed. Kathy had such a zest for life. I will miss her as she joins Keith.
