Kathy Marie Jensen, age 50, was called to be with our Lord and Savior at 9:33 a.m. on March 31, 2009, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Kathryn Marie Hosp was born in Joplin on May 12, 1958, to Kenneth V. Hosp Sr. and the late Isabelle Leilani Hosp. She graduated from Parkwood High School in 1976. For the past 21 years, Kathy worked for the City of Joplin in the Parks and Recreation Department, Cemeteries and Community Development. Kathy's beautiful smile could light up the whole room. She was such a kind, generous and loving woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Kathy endured a four-year long battle with advanced breast cancer with amazing strength, without any limitations, exceeding expectations of her doctors and living her life to the fullest until the very end. A battle some may say she lost, but actually didn't lose, because she is being welcomed into the most Glorious Kingdom of Heaven. On Feb. 29, 1992, Kathy and John Jensen were joined together in holy matrimony. He survives at the home. Additional survivors include her father, Kenneth V. Hosp Sr.; three daughters, Christa Smith and her husband, David, Jessie Eley and Lindsey Vaughn, all of Joplin; one sister, Margaret Cusick, Diamond; two brothers, Kenneth Hosp Jr. and his wife, Angela, Marion, Ohio, and Daniel Hosp, Joplin; two dearly loved grandchildren, Alyssa Eley and Morgan Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Our family wish to thank Dr. Tracey Coe; Dr. David Ross; the entire staff of the Freeman Cancer Institute; Dr. Matthew Ellis; and all the staff at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. We also wish to thank METS; Newton County Ambulance District; Joplin Fire Department; and the emergency room staff at Freeman Hospital West. Funeral services are planned for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Hosp Jr., Daniel Hosp, Mark Vaughn, David Smith, John Jensen Jr. and Brad Cavener. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in care of Parker Mortuary. Online condolences may be made at parkermortuary.com
