Not sure what to say?

My heart sank when I learned about Kathy this morning. My love and prayers go out to you, Bill and Peggy. I will always remember Kathy as one of the "pioneer" young UA women students who worked on our sports staff at the Tuscaloosa News in the mid-70s. She, Yvonne White, and Pat Hall blazed trails, much to Coach Bryant's groaning at times (altho he loved them, and treated them well). Kathy was a consummate pro from the get-go, and one of the several Lumpkin Family friends who enriched my...

Mr.& Mrs. Lumpkin, Bo, Karen and Bill - On behalf of Debbie, Frank Gerald and myself we were so sorry to hear about Kathy Jo's death. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Death is hard to take especially when it's so unexpected. We just lost Mama (Wanda Cleveland) and now Kathy Jo. Heaven's got 2 special angels now and I look forward to the day when we're all reunited. That's what helps me get through. Even though we don't see each other anymore, please know that we love y'all and...

We are praying for all the Lumpkin family at this difficult time. You were very blessed to have such a loving daughter, who accomplished so much in her 53 years and was loved by so many friends and peers.

One of my fondest memories of the Lumpkin family is at age 3 when I was the flower girl in Bill and Peggy Lumpkin's wedding. I was 5 years old when Kathy was born.

As Kathy's 2nd cousin, I have fond memories of playing dolls with her when I visited Aunt Clair Jane (Kathy's...

Kathy was one of my dearest friends. I don't think I have ever laughed so much as I do when I am with her and Catherine(Thomas.) Back in the mid 1980's I went back to school over at Troy State. With me being in my 30's, I didn't exactly have a lot in common with those typical college age students. My friend(Catherine) from Eufaula was teaching school up in Montgomery, well only 40 miles away-straight up 231 seemed to be an easy trip on Fridays. Kathy and Catherine became my closest...

Bill and Peggy: I am so sorry for the loss of your child. I am Sharon Hodgens mother. On Dec. 27, 05 We lost our daughter Anna. We know the pain that your family are faced with at this time. God is a great God and makes no mistakes. We have all the wonderful memories to hold and someday we will see both Kathy and Anna. God's peace and love be with each one today and the days to follow.

Bill & Peggy:
We never expect to lose our children.
I can't imagine your deep feeling of loss.
Know that God is sovereign.
We hurt with you.
May God's peace comfort you both.

BILL & PEGGY,
OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOUR WHOLE FAMILY.

I KNOW HOW CLOSE YOU WERE TO KATHY SINCE SHE WAS YOUR FIRST BORN. WE NEVER EXPECT ANYTHING TO HAPPEN TO OUR FAMILY AS TRAGIC AS THIS.

SHE WAS ONE OF A KIND AND WAS LOVED BY EVERYONE SHE CAME IN CONTACT WITH.

SHE IS IN A BETTER PLACE NOW WHICH IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND. BUT GOD NEEDED HER NOW AND ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN.

HE DID NOT CAUSE THIS BUT ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN. WE WILL NEVER KNOW WHY, BUT WILL KNOW...

Morton, Trey and I were so very sorry to hear of your loss. Our hearts and prayers go out to you at this time and in the days and weeks ahead. Hold tight to those loving memories they will last forever! Morton, Sharon and Trey Hodgens

To the Lumpkin family: I knew Kathy from two vantagepoints: As a former sportswriter in Jackson, Tupelo and Meridian, and as a two-blocks-away neighbor in her subdivision in Flowood. I also knew her Dad and worked in some press boxes with him across the South many years ago. Later, I saw as a member of the Clarion-Ledger reporting and editing staff that she was a hard worker. I saw as a neighbor that she was a sweet person, and I will miss her. Kathy was genuine.
