MADSEN, Kathy W. - Of Grand Blanc, age 67, died suddenly on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Visitation 12 p.m. Sunday until the time of the service at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the funeral home, Pastor Glen Gardner officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association. Kathy was born in Flint, Michigan on June 23, 1943, the daughter of the late Carl and Thelma (Holmes) Shaw. She graduated from Beecher High School Class of 1961 and married her high school sweetheart, Clay. She attended Central Church of the Nazarene. Kathy volunteered in numerous capacities with Easter Seals, Genesee County Soup Kitchen, different church functions and the Buick Open. As a last gesture of generosity, her family fulfilled her wish to be an organ donor through Gift of Life. She enjoyed spending her winters in Largo, Florida with her husband, family and friends. During their time in Florida she was a member of the Palm Hill Players and contributed by lending her God given musical talent. Kathy's greatest joy in life was caring for others, especially her children and grandchildren. She had a zest for life and found joy in the simple pleasures such as gardening and music. Surviving are her loving husband of 50 years, Clay; three beloved sons, Kevin and wife Dawn of Grand Blanc, Scott and wife Alana of St. Charles, Missouri, Robert and wife Jessica of Grand Blanc; nine cherished grandchildren; step-mother, Edna Herrod Shaw of Largo, Florida; siblings, Donna and husband Gene Shultz, Don Shaw, Ken and wife Terri Shaw, Debbie and husband Dennis Ross; several nieces, nephews and many special friends. Dear Clay, I am so sorry for your loss, I know Kathy will be missed greatly by her family & friends. It was such a good thing to see you both at the reunion and visit for a little bit. I'm glad she was feeling so well and wanted to be there to see all her old classmates. Will keep you in thought and prayer as you move through the next few months.

Clay, I'm so, so sorry to hear of Kathy's passing. What a wonderful lady! I was so blessed to be able to call her a friend. She was there for me when I went through my heart issues.
