Mine and Andrea's hearts are broken for you. Katie was a beautiful girl inside and out. When we moved to Raleigh in 2003, Andrea needed a friend. We prayed and ask God to send Andrea a special friend. Andrea then met Katie at West Cary Middle School. God had sent Katie to Andrea as that special friend, and she was every bit of that. We loved her and will never forget her.

My heart goes out to Katie's family. I had the privilege of working with her on several feral cat projects through our rescue group and was always struck by her inquisitive nature, sweet spirit and quiet determination. She was a friend to cats, great and small. She will be deeply missed.

When my son entered Cary High in Ninth Grade, he came from Dillard Drive Middle and didn't know many people at Cary. It was Katie that would come and sit with him at lunch. She seemed to reach out to everyone.
I met her twice, once when the "group" went to the movies. She was "hung on Micheal's hip" and it was clear that the two of them had a very special relationship. It brought tears to my eyes at that moment because it was sweet and innocent.
