Read MoreI remember when Katie joined our Explorer Search and Rescue team. They were bright and enthusiastic throughout our training. I've enjoyed watching them grow and work hard to educate people about their disability. Such a beautiful spirit that burned brightly and for too short a time.

Dear Pam, Stephen, and all in your family - I am so very sorry to learn of Katie's passing. I cannot say I know how you feel, but I do understand the pain of losing a child.
