Honaker Funeral Home, Inc. - Slidell Obituary

With profound sadness, the family of Kelly Frances Guth, age 49, of Slidell, Louisiana, announces her passing. Kelly died on Monday, March 15, 2021. She was born on October 4, 1971, in Hammond, Louisiana. She was the beloved daughter of Griffin Edward Guth and Carolyn Diane Shamis Guth.

Kelly graduated from Slidell High school in 1989. After high school, it was no surprise to her family when she wanted to go to nursing school. Kelly graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 2003, after working as a nurse for several years, Kelly found a different and equally challenging path for her brilliant mind. She went to work for LSU Health Sciences Center, serving as a Compliance Training Coordinator for 17 years, a job she excelled at and loved. Her former colleagues often spoke about her exceptional work ethic and integrity. Kelly holds the Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) certification, the hallmark of professional achievement and competence within her profession.

Kelly was a beautiful, free spirit who lived life in her own special way. She was loving, thoughtful, and generous her entire life. She also championed the underdog. She would give away anything she had if someone needed it. Kelly often nursed sick neighbors and friends, gave groceries to those in need, and provided moral support. Kelly faced many obstacles throughout her entire life but always met those challenges with determination and tireless optimism. She never gave up on anything and tenaciously fought for what was right.

Kelly was funny and loved to laugh, which she did often. We will forever miss her infectious, booming laugh that would make all who heard it smile. Kelly loved being around family and friends and especially adored her nephews; they will deeply miss their fun Aunt Kelly. She will also be missed by her much-loved cat babies Frankie and Wheezy. She had so much to look forward to and so much left to accomplish. It gives us comfort knowing Kelly is in heaven now dancing and singing to her favorite episode of Solid Gold, with Mr. Microphone in hand. We know she is anxiously awaiting a new Air Supply album, having listened to Lost in Love too many times to count. Kelly was deeply loved by her family and friends and will live forever in our hearts.

Kelly is survived by her mother, Carolyn Diane Shamis Guth; her father, Griffin Edward Guth; one sister Kimberly Guth Christian (Darrell); one brother, Kevin Guth (Caroline); three nephews, Joshua Guth (Sarah), Evan Guth, and Alexander Christian; her uncle, Ed Shamis Jr. (Betsy); her grandmother, Charlotte Shamis; numerous cousins, and her grandniece Evie Guth. Kelly is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Mona McLaughlin Shamis, and maternal grandfather, Edward Shamis Sr.

A Celebration of Kelly’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Antebellum House 430 South St. Slidell, Louisiana 70460.

Kelly, Oh my dear friend, I still miss you much. I miss your humor, your laughter, your words of encouragement, and your foul mouth (don't worry, I still use mine enough for both of us). We will always be 2 peas in a pod. I love you.

Just learned of my very Dear Friend Kelly's passing yesterday. We worked together daily at LSU Health Sciences Center for 14 years. She was always a cheerful, bright and helpful companion during that time. Enjoyed her company so much and am so saddened to learn of her passing. She was a dedicated employee, taking on a most difficult task of helping to develop and manage the university's medical training program for staff and students as well. She put her heart and soul into it and made...

RIP my childhood friend, the 80's would not have been the same without you! -Kecia
