Kelly Jones Jr.

1939 - 2022

Kelly Jones, Jr., departed this life and entered into eternal rest on February 9, 2022, at the age of 82. On April 8, 1939, Kelly Jones, Jr., was the first born to the union of the late Kelly Jones, Sr., and Albertine Dapmore Jones in New Orleans, LA. He grew up with 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He accepted Christ as his personal savior, was baptized at an early age and was a lifelong member of First Zion Baptist Church. His favorite biblical scripture was Psalms 23 and his favorite hymn was "Just a Closer Walk with Thee". He worked several jobs throughout the years. He was employed by Jefferson Parish Sanitation Department for 10 years, Furlow Laughlin Tractor Company for 20 years, as well as a substitute bus driver for the Jefferson Parish School Board. His last employment was as an owner/operator taxi cab driver. In his late teens, he picked up a saxophone and had a musical career that lasted for decades. He played with prominent bands and artists and was a professional disc jockey. In 1977, he founded Justice Recording Studio in Kenner, LA, where he was the President & Owner. In 1979, which was the prime of his musical career, he wrote and produced his own records titled Cisco and Tell Me,Tell Me. However, the highlight of his musical endeavors was playing the saxophone at his home church First Zion B.C. He was a member of the Young Men's Protective League Union Benevolent Association in Jefferson, LA (Shrewsbury) for many years. Kelly is preceded in death by: his parents, Kelly Sr., and Albertine Jones; his son Kevin Jones; two brothers; Roy Lee Jones and Gilbert Jones. Kelly's memories will be forever cherished in the hearts of: his daughter, Gail Jones; his son, Edgar Jones; his sisters, Linda Riley, Bernadine Sykes, Rita Dawson (J.C.), Lorraine Collier (Robert), and Albertine Robinson; his brother, Melvin Jones; 3 grandchildren, Terrill Jones, Jasper Womble, and Khadijah Jones; 5 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at First Zion Baptist Church, 1221 S. Causeway Blvd., Jefferson, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Thomas Nunnery officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, LA. Due to COVID-19, everyone in attendance must wear a facemask. Funeral planning and arrangements entrusted to Leitz Eagan Funeral Home.
