Dr. Kelly H. Meyer, 63, a resident of Russellville, died Saturday, May 8, 2010, at his home. He was born January 26, 1947, at Little Rock, to Julius Cates and Mary Kate Ross Meyer. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School where he was a star athlete and an academic scholar. During high school, he lettered in football and basketball and was a member of the National Honor Society. He attended Vanderbilt University on a football scholarship where he earned his bachelors in biology. He taught biology at Watson Chapel High School in Pine Bluff and attended graduate school at Middle Tennessee State University where he earned his masters. He attended medical school at the University of Arkansas Medical School where he earned his doctor of medicine degree in 1971. During his last year of medical school he did a family practice residency and was surgical resident at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee and later became an emergency room physician at St. Thomas Hospital. He moved to Russellville and joined the Williams Lowrey Clinic in 1977, to follow his dream of becoming a family practice physician in his native state of Arkansas. He also practiced medicine at Millard-Henry Clinic. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was the medical director of Freedom House, ARVAC Inc. He opened Meyer Medical Clinic in Russellville and operated the clinic until 2004 when he went to work at the Dardanelle Family Clinic. He was presently employed by the River Valley Medical Center in Dardanelle. He served his community for many years and was a very compassionate and well thought of physician. He was a great friend as well as an amazing doctor to his patients. He always put everyone's needs before his own and never complained about his own illness. He loved to host the friends of his children in his home. Having the teenagers around the house brought a lot of happiness and enjoyment to him and he strived to be a role model of humility. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Perry Ross Meyer. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Sharon K. Dotson Meyer; two sons, Mark Stephen Meyer of Franklin, Tennessee and J. D.
