He leaves behind a large, loving, extended family and many friends. Kelly was a lifelong teacher, not only as an educator with Albuquerque Public Schools, but by sharing his knowledge and wisdom with any who asked. He started his teaching career with the Espanola Public School system. He also taught for the Las Vegas city schools before moving to Rio Rancho. Before he was employed as a teacher, Kelly was a man of many trades. He worked various other jobs, including his time spent employed as a federal interpreter during the Cuban refugee crisis. He was also employed by the Albuquerque Tribune, as well as the Las Vegas Daily Optic. Kelly was also a talented trumpet player and during his college years, this gift helped pay for his education. Kelly enjoyed spending his free time with his family and his beloved dog, Johnny, as well as devoting time to his hobbies such as collecting comic books and knives. He was also a fisherman, having spent many summers taking his family fishing on the rivers of New Mexico as well as out on the boat in Kino Bay, Mexico. Throughout his life, he and Liz would often travel together with their family. They enjoyed many vacations together and the places they would go to for their son?s ice skating. His warm heart, tender smile, generous spirit and loving nature will truly be missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched. Not sure what to say?

To Mr. Torres's family.
Kelly was my friend from Alvarado elementary. We had dinner or lunch once in a while.
I respected him very much.
He was such an amazing person and wise. I will never forget such a gentle soul.

to the Torres family, I just want you to know that I still keep Mr. Torres in my prayers, just as I said I will never forget my friend. I hope you all are doing well.

To the Torres family, I still think of Mr. Torres, Kelly. I could never get use to calling him Kelly, had to much respect for him. I enjoyed having lunch with him for his Birthday. I remember every time I would run into you guys at Walmart or Walgreens. You always seemed so happy and had a story about a recent trip you had been on or getting ready for. I will always hold Kelly close to my heart, and keep him and you in my prayers. I loved his friendship and miss him. Rose Ponce-Chavez

My prayers are with you.
Kelly and I met while teaching at Armijo Elementary. He kept us laughing and always put a positive spin on the challenges we faced at work.
During our last conversation in May, he talked about how proud he was of Liz and her work with her students. He joyously bragged about his precious grandchildren! He was a faithful friend and I will miss him.

Liz and family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Kelly was a kind and devoted man. He will be missed. My prayers and condolences sent to you all. May The Good Lord comfort you all at that time and always.
