Kenneth A Boydstun

Uncle Ken was the quintessential uncle, I always looked up to his athletic prowess, and tried to emulate that in my own athletic career. He purchased a baseball glove for me as a little leaguer which I still have, refereed many of my basketball games and was a joy to work with in his various positions in the Vancouver Public Schools. Dedicated to family, friends, his schools, teams and co-workers, Ken always went the extra miles EVERY DAY to give his best. He was tireless in his goal to help others. I was lucky enough to work with Ken at MacHi in the 1980´s and 1990´s. His `old school´ approach to disciplining students and supporting the staff was legendary. When I was five and uncle Ken was 23, he was a great tease, and best piggy back rides ever!! Really special memories over the years.

Mr. Boydstun held high expectations for himself. As his student, athlete and later a young teacher under supervision his role model motivated myself and others all to try and do our best. While watching him play against the Harlem Globe Trotters in an exposition game at Hudson Bay gym mid 1960´s was amused that they could not hold Mr. Boydstun back even when double teaming him. Uncle Ken was a fantastic uncle. He was there for all his nephews and nieces. He attended many of the sports we played in. He was there to teach us to drive his car when we became old enough to get our license. Very trusting we would follow directions and not wreck his car. I guess that was the start of him being a great teacher in Vancouver School District. It was a pleasure to have him help with the students discipline when you needed it.
