Not sure what to say?

I lived across 38th Ave from Ken and Rusty for 8 years, until moving in 2005. I enjoyed visiting with them very much, and appreciated their presence as neighbors. They taught me much about marriage and aging, by their candor and brave example. I regret that I did not learn of their passing sooner, and send my deepest regards to their family.

Dear Margaret, Gillian, and Kit
I know we havent had any contact in years, but I do feel your loss. I remember so many days in grade school spending time at your home and enjoying the banter between your dad and mom. I know you feel the loss here on earth, but they never really do leave us....do they?

Ken and Elsie welcomed me into their home when I was a young librarian, newly arrived at the (then) Library Association of Portland's Central Children's Room in 1976. Elsie made me trifle and Ken and I sang songs from Gilbert and Sullivan, accompanied by his enthusiastic piano-playing. I got to know their girls--especially Margaret.

Margaret, although we have fallen out of touch, I have thought of you often. You and your mother gave so much friendship and wisdom to me. I'll bet...

Margaret, Gillian and Kathy, I'm so sorry about your Dad. Ken supported me so much in the library in government documents, I'm so grateful for his friendship. He was a dear sweet man and I always enjoyed his company. I know he and Rusty will be looking down on you, he was so proud of you all.

In the 1950s and 60s I worked with Rusty and Ken in their respective libraries. I last spoke to Ken two weeks ago and I realized he would follow along a few paces behind Rusty. Years ago our families had good times together and the two of them are missed.
