The Kicknic Kid
You know how most people have to bend down to scratch their knee? Kenny Caldwell did not, because he had hands the size of baseball mitts and arms that went on forever. "He was a little slim Jimmy," said his mother, Elsie Caldwell, from his hometown, Philadelphia, "with big hands and a big, big heart. I called him my little chocolate drop."

Mr. Caldwell, 30, liked being a technology salesman for Alliance Consulting Group on the 102nd floor of 1 World Trade Center. But what he loved was figuring out ways to get people together. "I used to call him the C.E.O., chief entertainment officer," said his older brother, Leon Caldwell. He even invented an annual event: the International Kicknic Contest, held every August in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, for an ever-expanding circle of friends and family to play kickball and catch up.

"My neighbors used to tease me about him while he was growing up," Mrs. Caldwell said. "They'd say other kids collect stray cats and dogs, but your Kenny collects stray people."

Not sure what to say?

Yo Ken,
Despite the many people lost on that terrible day that I can sympathize with, you're the only one that I think of. Still got our Kindergarten picture back at OMS in my photo album---wish you were back here brother but I know there's better place than being with God.

I first met Kenny while a student at Hofstra University. He was gangly, tall and had such a warm personality. A great smile and such a good sense of humor. I heard about his passing many years later and it struck me as such a great loss. All of us at HTV have fond memories of KC .

Love you ken, miss you everyday family. Skip tyree

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. I remember co-worker lunches with you at the Trade Tower and you saying "Good deal" with a giant laugh all the time. What a warm and sweet guy you were. I miss you Kenny! I do think of you often even after all these years. God Bless you and all your loved ones.

Kenny, this day (September 11th) brings mix emotions to my spirit! I miss that smile and energy that you always shared with everyone! As a coach, I will forever remember how much you impacted my life and others. You might not be with us physically but you are still with us spiritually............ forever! RIP...Coach Wrice

I only met Kenny a couple of times, but he left an outsized impression. He was such a warm friendly young man with a smile as big as his heart. I remember him fondly, especially on this 20th anniversary of 9/11.

Remembering Kenneth on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...

I can't believe it's been 19 years since you were taken away from us. I still share stories from our childhood with the kids I teach at my high school in Athens PA. Missing that infectious laugh!!
