To Kenneth's family, You have my deepest sympathies for the loss of Kenneth. I remember meeting him when I was just five (and he would have been 13 or so) after the ending of the second world war allowed my family to travel to Texas from Philadelphia. He impressed me as very tall, smart and friendly. Later, I loved to get his enthusiastic letters and emails filled with conviction that space travel to the moon and beyond was possible.

Ken and I knew each other a bit from the early shuttle avionics work, but we became friends through the close friendship of our wives, always a blessing. Many delightful days and evenings together, discussing a wide range of topics from his deep and wide intellect, but always coming back to the exploration of space. To the end, his mind was on the success of our space program. Ad astra, Ken.

I had a lot of respect for Dr. Ken Cox as a brilliant engineer, leader and visionary. He was able to foster cooperation between government, aerospace industry and academia to address not only technology problems but new, creative ways to compliment each others' advances even in the light of competitive advantage.
He loved blue-grass music. For many years, his we'll worn pipe was almost a fixture with him.
