Kenneth E. Bostic wanted to be a police officer and likely didn't expect to go to college. But he still took a high school calculus class _ for the challenge. "We knew we were going to miss him after he graduated. You just don't replace people like that," said math teacher Mike Caramella. Bostic, 21, of Hawthorne, Nev., was killed Oct. 30 in Baghdad by small-arms fire. He was a 2003 high school graduate and was assigned to Fort Polk. Bostic played varsity football and baseball. "He was a leader on and off the field," Caramella said. "If we were down, he would be in the dugout and he would tell everyone to pick it up." He returned from Iraq with a CD of music he and a friend recorded of a performance in Iraq, said career coordinator Darryl Odom. "If you asked him to do one thing he would go the extra mile," he said. Margaret Spriggs had a son die in a car accident two years ago and Bostic sent her a letter of consolation while in Afghanistan. "He had a huge heart," she said. "He could be angry at you one second, but if you needed something, he would be there." He is survived by his mother, Patricia Thyne, and father, James Bostic.

Not sure what to say?

Hello, We wanted to let you; your family and friends know that we have made a small donation to the St. Jude Children´s Research Hospital in the name of Kenneth E. Bostic US Army Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission. We will not...

Not a day goes by that I don’t think of my battle buddy! I love you brother. You’re forever missed. It was such an HONOR to serve with you. Kenny was the type of guy who was always there for you, any time, any day. Roughnecks for life!

Sitting in my living room and looking at Kenny's picture on my wall. I'm an old Soldier that was very lucky to have him in my life. The Soldiers of that platoon were the toughest and most resilient I ever knew and Kenny is at the top of that list. Love you Brother.

As Memorial Day approaches, we are researching American heroes in our English class. Kenneth is my hero and he will not be forgotten - nor will the other brave soldiers who fought by his side.

Thank you Ken Bostic. You have not been forgotten.

To the Bostic family: I just ran into someone and they told me about Kenny. I was in Afghanistan with him. He was a great person and always made me laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with Kenny and your family.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Kenneth E. Bostic:
Please accept my remembrance of Kenneth on the anniversary of his passing and know that he will never be forgotten.
