Kenneth L. Ellenberger, 93, of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at his home.
He was born Nov. 24, 1932, in Altoona, a son of the late Frances (Ebersole) and Foster Ellenberger.
On May 30, 1953, he married Evelyn M. (Geist) Ellenberger, who preceded him in death on June 23, 2010.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952.
Ken retired in 1991 as a Railroad Locomotive Engineer after 40 years. He began his railroad career as a fireman on steam locomotives. He worked for the B&O, Chessie System, and the Buffalo-Pittsburgh Railroads.
Ken was a member of the Albion United Methodist Church. He was a very religious man and was very involved within his church.
He enjoyed many things in life such as mowing his grass, taking Sunday drives, traveling in his camper trailer to the 48 continental states, gardening, trains, woodworking, repairing wind-up clocks and radios, birds and feeding them, but mostly he enjoyed and loved his family.
He is survived by four children, daughter Diana Bowers of Indiana, son Gary Ellenberger and wife Darlene of Punxsutawney, son Tom Ellenberger and wife RaeAnn of Axtell, Texas, and daughter Sandra London and husband Barry of Newport News, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Nathan Bowers and Lisa Olliver, Michael Bowers, Daniel Bowers, David Ellenberger and wife Lauren, James Ellenberger, and Angie and Cathy; and three great-grandchildren, Luca, Rowan and Ayla Bowers.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Ellenberger; two brothers, Duane and Melvin Ellenberger; a grandson, Matthew Bowers, and a son-in-law, Robert Bowers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation beginning at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
