Rest in Peace Comrade

It Seems as if it was just days ago that the legion of soldiers who attended HBCUs were playing intramural basketball at WRAMC and Sgt. Gaines was officiating He was always smiling no matter how much we complained about his officiating which was probably flawless. I am certain that I speak for the few of us who are remaining, some in the Washingtonn D.C. Metro Area. Rest in Peace Sergeant. i

Although it has been 63 years since I first met Sgt. Gaines (Kenneth) at WRAMC in 1960, I will always remember that effervescent smile. May he forever Rest in Peace.

As a Walter Reed Friend and acquaintance, I fondly remember Kenneth as an effective and dedicated intramural basketball basketball referee who called it as he saw it and did it with an ever present smile. Rest in peace Kenneth.

I knew Pat was gone when I did not receive a birthday card this week. He has not missed a holiday or birthday in decades. I almost drove to the house when he was not answering his phone. I went online instead -- afraid of what I would find. I will sorely miss my friend. I met Pat when he and my mother, Gladys Hylton, worked together on the new manned space program for the Army. It saddens me to hear news of Pat's demise. I will certainly miss him and our frequent telephone conversations. Such a gentleman! Heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Condolences to the family and friends of Sergeant Kenneth Gaines. I along with many other soldiers who attended HBCUs was stationed at Walter Reed from 1960-62. I remember Kenneth as a Ward Sergeant who officiated many of our intramural basketball games, was always pleasant and smiling and drove a white 1961 chevrolet. He truly was a nice guy, although some of us sometimes gave him a hard time. Many of us still reside in the DC area. I am truly sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.

My fondest memory of your dad is how much my mother loved him. He had a welcoming spirit and a ready smile. You are his legacy and a reflection of his goodness. May you find peace in knowing he lived a full life.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of the joyful times that you shared together. May you find comfort from our wonderful Heavenly Father during this difficult time. (Psalms 94:18,19) Our sincere heartfelt condolences goes out to
