Kenneth V. "Ken" Hagarty

Ken and I met in 1953 when I was an Airwoman in Zweibrucken and he soon introduced me to his friend Ernie Gardiner, whom I later married. "Haggis" was best man at our wedding in 3 Wing, and we were able to be in Winnipeg when he married Gladys a few years later. Over the years, the four of us visited back and forth many times with our young children; in Sarnia, Ottawa and Grand Bend. He was always fun to be around, but more than that, he was a kind and gentle man, devoted to his family. ...

To Gladys and family , my sincere condolences. Ken was a true friend for over half a century . Memories of our holidays together in Europe will last me forever.

My wife,Kathy, and I are saddened by the news of Ken's death. I retain fond memories of him, particularly of the various "skits" we engaged in together while members of the OFU. Ken's exuberant and seemingly care-free personality could not mask his utter devotion to his family, nor his unfailing loyalty, over a period of fifty years, as a friend.

We will always remember the great times we had at Zweibrucken. The SPAADS have lost a Brother.

Ken and I were together at #1 Pilot Gunnery School, RCAF MacDonald Man., May - July 1952. Then on Course 21 at #1 Fighter OTU, RCAF Chatham NB, on the F86 Sabre, and from there we were posted to 413 (F) Sqn, Bagotville, Que. In April 1953, 413 moved to RCAF Zweibrucken, Germany where Ken and I spent two happy years as squadron and mess mates. I have good memories of him and will remember him as a happy-go-lucky man with a big heart.

Ken and I became friends in 1951 when we met on Officer Selection Course 25 at RCAF Crumlin (London,ON). There we went through the Aircrew Selection Process including academics, physical proficiency and survival training. On graduation as Flight Cadet Pilot trainees, I went to 1 Flying Training School (FTS) at Centralia ON while Ken went to 2 FTS at Gimli MB. We met again at 1 Fighter Operational Training Unit, Chatham NB where we were among the first to train on the F86 Sabre aircraft. ...

I remember the good old days with Ken and
his many friends in the Air Force. We will
miss him but will not forget those wonderful days gone by.
